L'Horizon Hotel & Spa in Jersey
Located on one of the most beautiful beaches
One of my favourite places to have lunch is on the terrace at L’Horizon. You are right on the beach on the wide sweep of St Brelade’s Bay. With glorious fresh air and the tide lapping gently on the sand, this is the perfect setting to enjoy some locally caught seafood. The food writer Elizabeth David extolled the simple delights of an omelette and a glass of wine.
At L’Horizon, my simple pleasure is the very freshest fish with a glass of wine. While enjoying a glass of Bruno Paillard Rosé Champagne, I usually choose fresh whole Jersey sea bass, cooked on the outdoor grill on the terrace, with Chef’s imaginative combination of herbs and spices, and perhaps some locally grown asparagus or a salad.
L’Horizon has an excellent wine list and a glass of Picpoul de Pinet La Cote Flamanc, Coteaux de Languedoc, is perfect with sea bass. This is a refreshing pale yellow wine with citrus and tropical fruits zestiness – Picpoul means ‘lip – sting’ in Languedoc patois.
The deserts are always tempting although island-grown raspberries or strawberries with Jersey cream are hard to beat.
When the sun is shining, al fresco is the magic ingredient to a summer meal and I encourage our hotels to make the most of their terraces and good weather for our guests. BuxtedPark is another favourite of mine, with its elegant orangery and the serene views over the lake and the estate, a wonderful setting for afternoon tea.
Other Hand Picked Hotels offering al fresco eating are: New Hall Hotel & Spa, Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham, Crathorne Hall Hotel, Yarm, North Yorkshire, Seiont Manor Hotel in Snowdonia and Woodlands Park Hotel in Cobham,Surrey.
